At HKC we love to throw a great party, and that’s just what we did. We came up with a menu of fun, festive food and candy that contains more than just sugar, fat and artificial dyes! YES, halloween means pillowcases filled with candy. But it is also filled with fun costumes, trick-or-treating (great exercise), and the opportunity to teach kids about the concept of moderation.
Carrots win the popularity contest of root vegetables, especially with children and Bugs Bunny! This is lucky because carrots are a terrific source of carotene, which is not found in other root vegetables. Carotene becomes vitamin A when absorbed by the cells in the intestine and is essential for good health. Other super foods, like spinach, broccoli and zucchini actually have more carotene, but carrots have the advantage of being inexpensive and more widely available.
