I want to wholeheartedly commend you for taking the first step towards improving your child’s current and future health, often the hardest in the important journey to improved health and fitness. The fact that you are seeking a solution means you are concerned about your family’s health and you have made a wise decision to make this a priority. Forging a path to improved health requires choosing the right program for your family. We are that program.
The time to improve your family’s health habits is now, as this is the first American generation not expected to live as long as its parents! Your child’s poor eating and activity habits—regardless of weight—are not without significant consequences. We know plaque buildup in arteries begins in childhood, the result of a diet high in saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, and too little physical activity. And because a current healthy weight does not assure a future healthy weight, it is best to take out an “insurance policy” against overweight and obesity. Healthy lifestyle habits learned on our program is this policy!
But many families are dealing with health or weight issues right now. Currently 20% of all children are obese, while 1 in 3 is overweight. Research shows that 80% of obese children will become obese adults. These statistics are alarming because the serious long term effects of obesity are well known. With 1 in 8 adult deaths in America caused by an illness directly related to being overweight or obese, this must not be dismissed. In fact, the health impact of obesity is now approaching that of tobacco! And the risks associated with obesity in childhood are equally concerning. Our kids need help! Fortunately, the solution is known—improved diet and fitness. Unfortunately, implementing change isn’t always easy, but we are here to help.
Our program focuses like a laser beam on these two pillars of health and wellness—diet and fitness. Many wellness and weight management programs tell parents what to do (provide healthier choices for meals and snacks, offer proper portion sizes, reduce junk food in the home, and increase activity), but leave parents on their own with the difficult and often time consuming task of implementing these healthy guidelines. At the other extreme are rigid, unrealistic diets and exercise regimens that never teach parents or children about the feeding and activity transformation necessary to enact sustainable change over the long term.
Both of these situations set you and your child up for failure! Even if improved wellness is achieved, the results are short lasting as the child slips back into the same unhealthy patterns that you were seeking to improve. Our program is different. We are a program built around you and your child. No one-size fits all approach and plenty of personal support when you need it!
I created this program as a self-guided learning experience with plenty of hands-on tools to simplify its implementation. But if you find yourself struggling on the program, I am committed to supporting you and helping your family find its way! You are not alone on this program. We support you so you can support your family!
All of us at Healthy Kids wish your family health and wellness.
We make it easy. You make it happen!
