How much weight loss is too much?

Not everyone making changes for a healthier lifestyle needs to lose weight; in fact many kids only need to maintain weight during periods of growth to slim down as they grow taller. Others may participate in a healthy lifestyle program solely for its health benefits, not weight management.

When weight loss is the goal it is not recommended that children lose more than ½ to 1 pound per week, or that adults lose more than 1 to 2 pounds per week.
